  2. Thanks, Bhagbir! Best case would be by end of the year--in just a few months. Worst case would be I'm hit by a truck (yikes). But honestly, I'm one guy working just as hard as I can. It's been difficult to lock in a firm release so I just have a goal and try hard to keep working and keep people updated on progress. 3. Hi:

I just saw your preview on the final Bosman. I am so psyched about this game! You've combined three of my favorite things: space exploration, a mystery (which relates to the Soviet Union it seems (and is another facination of mine)), and an Ico like adventure. This is like a game made for me!

Also, did I read correctly you are doing this alone?!

I just have a couple questions:

Is there any chance this will be coming to consoles? And when is the likely release date?

Good luck! I really can't wait for this video game!

  4. Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I'm working on this on my own, but I do have a great composer (Rich Douglas) working on the score, voice actors doing voice work, etc. But the game art and programming is just me, which makes for a huge effort!

I'm working on PC/Mac release first and then we'll see about consoles...definitely a possibility. I hope to wrap and release by end of the year but I don't have a firm date yet.

    Thanks again!

  10. Hi I saw this game in Game informer magazine and found the site. I have a question though. Will there be a free play aspect to the game or will it be an entirely story surrounded game? Either way I am going to buy and play this game. I also hope to make videos on it. Anyway looks awesome and keep up the hard work- AtomicSpaceToaster

    1. Hi Collin, we haven't announced pricing yet, but it's an indie adventure game so that should give you some idea (so not a $60 or even $30 game...). Just waiting on some approvals and then will have a big update in just a couple days...

  14. Hey David,
Just like with some of these other guys i was brought to you by gameinformer. I have a very strong interest in playing this game when it comes out, however, I dont see any kinds of specs anywhere. I dont know if my computer will be able to play it or not and i would like to know so that i may do upgrades before the launch date if necessary.

    1. Hi cartman, I don't have firm system requirements yet, and I'm still tweaking/testing performance. However, it's not super-demanding. It runs great on a gtx 550ti, for example, and even ran ok at lower quality settings on my laptop. I'll do my best to post requirements on the blog, and you can look for them on the Steam page too when that goes up (hopefully this week...)

      Delete
    2. ok sounds good. are you doing a beta key type thing? or are we paying for "early access"? i'm new to the indie games

      Delete
    3. Early access is a pre-order, basically. You get the beta immediately and the full game on release...which won't be long. I really thought today would be the announcement. Hopefully I'll get the word tomorrow...

Oh, and welcome to Indie Games!! ;-)

    1. Don't worry, you're not annoying! What's annoying is it's not on Steam yet...I was hoping for last week. Trying to get it through "approvals" and so maybe later this week? Early access (beta) first and then hopefully full release by May... Announcements coming very soon...

  20. Hi. I purchased the Early Access, but when I got to the end of (Power Station part) it said thanks for playing the demo? I am very sad as I was looking more towards the meat and potatoes of game, than purchasing a demo. Please explain?

    1. Hi Stephanie, I'm sorry you were expecting more. That's a good thing, in one way, but I didn't want you to be mislead about the content of the Early Access build. In my intro statement on the steam store page, I mentioned this build has levels 1-6 of 20 total levels. It's possible I will release more of the levels before launch, but I'm not certain of that.

Valve requires/recommends providing a few levels for early testing, so that's why we didn't release the full game (that, and it's not all ready). The good news is we are planning to release in just a few weeks time in May. Thank you again for checking it out!

      Delete
    2. Oh, and to clarify, when the full game is released you will automatically get that too for no extra charge. So while the beta is not the full game, you will be getting it and for a lower price than the eventual cost. Thanks again!

  22. I just bought this game on steam and played through all of what you have released so far and I just have to say I love everything you are doing with it. The simplistic overlays let me be absorbed into the game and focus on the small details you put into the landscape and character models. And the music is some of the best scoring I've heard in a long time in an rpg. This game is everything I loved about old adventure rpg's with up to date graphics and gameplay. Thanks for working on such a great game. Hope to get to play more of it soon!

But one question, is it planned to translate the ingame text into German? After all, some text passages and words are very specific. I have so many questions, but i will start with just one first: Wouldn't it be more tense if the oxygen supply was more limited? Or maybe limit the stamina. 46. I got the game via one of my steam accounts and i am sorry to say i want my 20 dollars back, actually i want 30 dollars back. 20$ because thats what it costs, and another 10$ because i spent a few hours playing the game i wont get back.

    Bad walking mechanics/bad running too.
Jumping handles like your character is a stick with feet who bounces off of walls and objects.
Iv seen more interesting storys in childs picture books.
Graphics could have been toned down a bit so the game would run smoother.
The platforming was the worse iv ever seen, im serious too.
It was the kind of platforming that i believed couldn't exist, its that bad.
The plant life that act as platforms is glitched to kill you even after you get off it.
The frame rate drops dramaticly in dusty areas.
The Robot hand just serves as a way to add a feature into the game so to make the game seem more involved, but it fails miserably and just adds a few tedious seconds to what should happen pretty fast.
Following the girl is just plain stupid, she out paces you easy untill the part she becomes your travelling companion, and from then on shes slow as molasses.
The "need" for air is just an obnoxious game mechanic added in to give something more to do then walk around(that something more being dying).

All in all its a bad game that handles like its angry at you.
Please everyone of the world just pass this game by, its not worth your money, maybe if it comes on sale for 5 dollars on steam and you just happen to have five dollars that you were gonna use for toilet paper, then and only then would you not be wasting you money.

To the Developer: Nice try but i think you failed to make a game, more of a test of patience(a test i failed because i couldnt bring myself to torture myself by playing that game any longer).

I will be sure to warn my friends not to get this.

Also, if it does not run smoothly it means your PC is not that good. Perhaps a birthday should have been a new PC or upgrades for your existing machine?

  49. David,
Excellent game thus far. I have not completed it, but I find myself not being able to stop. A quality I haven't found in many games recently. Normally I play a game for a few hours and never play it again. This game have me fixated. Its a mixture of sci-fi/mystery/puzzle/psychological thriller. I love it. Its easy to play, easy controls, no visible bugs, just a relaxing game to sit back, enjoy, and make my mind wonder what is really going on. Excellent work, and good luck to you. I look forward to seeing your future work!

  50. I just finished the game and i must say a wonderful piece of art it is. Very nice designed level, atmospehre and a great story even if the end, while by all means still very good, was a bit predictable. I was hoping for a twist there.

    A few bugs i spoted:
    1) After restarting at a save point all the previous log entries are gone
    2) At least on my computer after tabbing out of and back into the game the mouse cursor becomes and stays visible. The problem can be fixed tho by opening and closing the log so it's not really that bad.
    3) This may be just me being bad and jump and run style games but it feels to me like the jumping is behaving a bit inconsistently. Sometimes you seems while doing more or less exactly the same, withing human limits of course, to jump a lot further and sometimes a lot shorter.

  51. Thank you for making this amazing game! I loved it from start to finish, it really has the spirit of classic Sci-fi games that i grew up with. I really do hope that the success of this game will inspire you to create a follow-up!

  52. I'm interested in this game, but all of the YouTube reviews make it look like a walking simulator. Can you do anything in the game in addition to walking and picking up items used to walk somewhere else?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I specifically put platforming, jetpacking, and puzzles into the game with the intent that it would not be about merely walking. I like a little more interaction in my games than walking... But at the same time, this game is about traversing the planet and seeing/exploring a number of different environments. If you only play COD games you probably won't like it. If you like action-adventures and a unique story, I think you will like it. But yes, there is more than walking in the game.

  55. These sort of spine-tinglingly erie sci-fi exploration games are few and far between, and I for one love this one in particular.

Beyond the gameplay, visuals, environmental audio and gently intriguing storyline strands, I'd like to highlight that the voiceover artists were perfect, especially in the short and limited interview sequences - they really added something to the game.

It's not without its faults - some jarring level and audio transitions and a few glitches here and there, and the character animations are a bit stiff, but otherwise it is wonderful stuff

  59. Hi,
I bought a boxed copy but it requires steam ... is this correct?? I don't normally buy modern PC games so not used to DRM on physical copies. Does this mean that potentially this game wont work in the future if steam changes or doesn't exist??
Is the only way for me to get a non-DRM copy to also but a digital version?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Ross, the reason for Steam with the retail version was not really about the DRM as much as the need to make it easy to update later. By hosting with Steam we can (and have) pushed updates to the game. This wouldn't be impossible otherwise, but harder to do. Please message me directly at the email address on this page if you have further concerns.

  60. Hi David,

I enjoyed playing Lifeless Planet, so I thank you for your efforts. I thought you might be interested in a glitch at the very end of the game, not sure if it's even a glitch but I'm sure you you didn't plan for this.

I've made a video about it here:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFKE9LCvxOs&feature=youtu.be

I looked around for one of those audio logs hoping I would find one saying 'Congratulations you have found the secret easter egg!' but I didn't ; ) It would have been a great hidden secret though, if you'd made the city a 'hidden' extra level to the game. Anyway, you can travel to it as there are no invisible walls surrounding the last level as there is in all the others.

We all had a great time watching him play and seeing the little astronaut walking through unknown territories and figuring out where he had to go to next or how to get through certain areas. What a brilliant and exciting game! Kudos to you, Mr. Board, for making such an interesting and fantastic game. We will definitely tell all our friends about Lifeless Planet and we hope that another story of Lifeless Planet will come out in the future, where the little astronaut might find a way through time and space to be reunited with his beloved wife again.

    Regards,

  64. Thanks! Im really enjoying the game on Xbox One! But please, fix the save bug! I have been kicked back several times and have lost 2-3h of gameplay each time. Any ETA on the patch? Im sorry to say that for me, its unplayable right now and will be waiting for the patch before I continue. :-/

Other than that, great jobb! :-)

    1. Hi Adam, I'm sorry you're having trouble. We've had a few reports of this, but I'm not sure what the issue is or why we didn't see any problems in testing. In the meantime, there's a workaround on the Help page that describes how you can show all levels and go to the last one to continue, even if your save file is lost.

      Delete
    2. Hi, thanks for the swift reply. Yes I read the workaround but I am an completionist and want all the collectables. Im guessing the found items/logs wont tag along?

      Delete
    3. This is hard for me to answer because I'm not certain what is actually going on here. I haven't been able to reproduce this in testing yet, so I don't know if it's simply losing your progress in the game or also losing track of collectibles. I suggest using the cheat code to return to your last level played and then see if a.) your PDA still lists collected docs and b.) if the achievements (like geologist and historian) show progress percentages that match what you'd collected (as best as you can guess anyway). And I'd appreciate the feedback if you can provide any here. Feel free to email me direct: games@stage2studios.com which will be less cumbersome than replying here. Thanks!

    4. Ok we did find out the problem. It happens in rare cases when the console goes to sleep and then later you sign in to your profile BEFORE you launch the game. Thanks for your patience with this, but at least now we know when it happens...

  65. Lost all my progress twice on Xbox One. Several hours of gameplay just wasted. I was very close to the end of the game so it was even more aggravating the second time.

  74. Hi, really enjoyed the game. Actually have all the trophies on the PS4 except the very buggy Survivalist trophy. Played the game 4 times, the last 2 trying to get that trophy. Never paused or left the game and all in one sitting with no deaths. Nothing unlocked, please fix it to where you can exit or pause the game if need be. I would like to have the platinum because I do enjoy it. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I appreciate your patience--yes, we have a new build we're working on that will allow you to earn this trophy and not require a single sitting or penalize for using last checkpoint, etc. We're hoping to have a patch ready very soon. So glad you like the game!

      Delete
  75. Hi. Why did you patch the PS4 version to make trophies easier??

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Without the changes it was possible to meet the requirements for a trophy but lose it because you got stuck or paused the game. It's not perfect, but we didn't want people losing a trophy due to basic things like pausing a game.

I hope you can help me

    1. Sorry you're having trouble! Here's all the ways you have to die for that trophy:

      By Fire (Inferno level)
By Fall (anywhere you fall and die)
      By Rock (Foothills level)
By Pike (stabbed by a root creature)
By “Zombie” (root creatures that grabs you like a hand - Badlands level)
By Flower (root creature that looks like a tree/flower - Dead Forest level or Cliffs level)
By Bomb (dynamite blows you up - Research Complex)
By Oxygen (run out of air - Landing site, etc)

      Delete
  77. Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately, this did not bring anything. But I have found a way how it works. If you have done some kind of dying you have to play so far until the game automatically saves and this signals with the memory symbol. Afterwards you go over to the next chapter in the new chapter in which you have to make a request. A prerequisite for this is that you have already played the game once.

  79. Hi David. Can you please tell us the exact things you can and cant do for the survivalist trophy? Has a patch been released that makes it easier? Im finding conflicting information about this. Ps I really love your game mate.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks, I'm glad you like it! Here's the scoop for Survivalist:

You must start a new game from the "Landing Site" level and then play through to the end.

      You can:
-Choose "Last Checkpoint" (ie if you get stuck)
-Choose "Resume Game" (ie if you restart the console)
      -Pause (and un-pause) the game

      You can NOT:
-Click "New Game" and jump to a chapter other than Landing Site.
      -Die

      Thanks again!
      Dave

  80. Hi Dave. Thanks for getting back to me and letting us know some more information on what this trophies rules are. I live in Australia and the patch i have on PS4 is 1.01. Do the rules you stated still apply for 1.01 patch? Also if we die. Can we restart a checkpoint or do we need to restart the whole game again? I just want to be clear on everything before starting this epic journey again. Thanks so much mate.

  84. Subject: Truly stuck in a loop

    Hi David

i've been playing Lifeless Planet (and very little else) on my PS4, for several weeks now, and recently arrived in the Inferno area. I made my way through to the area where there are two boulders, and two plumes of fire, and I learned later on that you are supposed to cover up one plume of fire, then the next - at which point the tower will fall and you can proceed.

Something curious happened to me, when I was placing the boulder onto the FIRST plume of fire, I pushed it too hard, and it went over the edge. I was then left with just ONE BOULDER, and i can only cover up ONE of the two plumes - so, I cannot proceed.

I have tried allowing myself to die, but every time I come back I still only have ONE BOULDER.

Then in desperation, I tried going to Last Checkpoint (which usually works fine). But nit this time - It drops me right back in the same spot, between the two plumes - with only ONE BOULDER.

How can I get out of this loop, without endangering weeks of gameplay?? I was doing pretty well....

I hope you can help me.

A fantastic game, by the way, I cant stop playing it.

    Yours sincerely

  86. Hi David! I've encountered a problem on my AMD laptop running Ubuntu х64 with Steam. I've played an hour at once, the next day I tried to launch the game - it crashed after choosing resolution and graphics. Several retries - no result. Pressed "Validate cache integrity" in steam options - 91 broken files will be reacquired. The download ended with failure during installing the update. I uninstall, install from scratch, check cache integrity - it's ok. Still fail to launch. Tried both on NTFS and ext4 filesystems. I understand my laptop is no steam machine, thus it's not officially supported. I just wonder if You are aware of this kind of problem and know how to solve it. I wouldn't ask if the game didn't launch at all, from day one, but it did first and doesn't now. Do You have any solution?

    1. Crud, sorry to hear this! Yeah I'm not actually a Linux guy so can't help off the top of my head. Honestly Steam on PC does this kind of thing sometimes and the only solution is a totally clean install not just of the game but of Steam. I know that sounds like a crap answer but again I'm speaking from experience here. The steam forums have some helpful linux users who might know more. If you can't get it going shoot me an email at games@stage2studios and i'll respond directly and see if I can track down my Linux guy for additional help. Thanks for playing!!!

    1. Oh no! It should reset position if you dropped it. But if not, you may have to re-load the current chapter. Go to New Game and it will show all chapters you've unlocked. You shouldn't have to repeat too much.

  90. Constructive Criticism: Fix Your Controls. These are the worst controls I've had in a very long time for a video game. They remind me of Crash Bandicoot from the PS1. You tell it to turn left or right and it goes straight, typically right off a cliff. Also, can we add First Person mode? This third person mode makes the controls all the worst.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Really sorry to hear you don't like the controls. This was my first game so I learned a lot and I know it's not perfect. This game was originally released years ago so won't get more major updates, but Lifeless Moon (upcoming) will have improved controls--especially the way the jetpack works. I didn't add first person because it's primarily an adventure game and like most action-adventures I wanted a sense of the player in the world. Anyway, I did want the platforming to Lifeless Planet to be challenging, but some players don't like it. Thanks for the feedback and mostly thanks for playing my game.
